Volcom is proudly launching its new collection Abandoned Playground II.
The stars of the A.P#2 campaign are Axel Crushberg and Lore Bruggeman – both from Belgium, skaters with an acute awareness of the abandoned playgrounds that shaped them, and the fashion that results from that.
A.P#2 is an entirely unisex collection, highlighting the accessibility of the range for all those who can relate to urban culture. Abandoned Playground opens up the feeling of urban inclusiveness, promoting a collection that is from the streets and designed for all, irrespective of gender.
Volcom’s new range pays homage to the urban scene, those that see the deserted urban areas as their playground, staying true to the raw, gritty side of the cities they call home. These areas of urban decay offer new avenues for creativity, whether that be through skateboarding, music, art or any cultural influences that shape the cities we live in. A collection designed for those who don’t conform to the usual norms and see disused urban spaces as an opportunity for self-expression. A blend of influences, drawing reference from the decrepit, decaying urban areas that once might have been prosperous, and now lie unused and neglected. An entirely unisex collection, highlighting the accessibility of the range for all those who can relate to urban culture. Abandoned Playground opens up the feeling of urban inclusiveness, promoting a collection that is from the streets and designed for all, irrespective of gender.
Featuring a bold mix of military influences and sportswear colour blocks over a collection of practical pieces reflecting the urban environment from which it was born – Abandoned Playground brings a renewed approach to Volcom’s product direction. With a nod to 90’s fashion in the form of urban camo, on trend soccer jerseys and baggy fit jeans. Bright colour blocks intertwined with darker references. A key piece of the collection is the half zip puff anorak, in Swedish military and urban camo, fusing perfectly the base of functional military inspired sportswear. Drawing further references through purple camo, and oversized styling from the 90’s grunge scene- abandoned playground fuses sport styling referencing with a military pallet emphasising the functional aspects of this collection.

ABOUT VOLCOM
Inspired by creative spirit, Volcom was founded in 1991 and creates products for the persistent who are true to their passions. We were born to chase what we are true to. It’s not that we want to… We Hev To. We have a vision that turns obstacles into opportunity, a creative courage to tempt the impossible… And embrace the strange. Telling us to push further…To try again. Endlessly seeking elevation, we are all connected by this same internal force. Forever we chase that intoxicating moment when our vision is realized… The world around us goes quiet… And for brief moments, we are more than alive. Volcom, True To This.
Abandoned Playground also draws a strong reference from skate culture. The utilisation of urban fixtures as a blank canvas to draw lines has been the core of skate mentality from the beginning. In terms of product, cementing the skate connection in the range through an exclusive collaboration skate bag with Hyskatebag, a legit player in the urban French skate scenes of Bordeaux and Paris. The stars of the Abandoned Playground campaign are Axel Cruysberghs and Lore Bruggeman – both from Belgium, skaters with an acute awareness of the abandoned playgrounds that shaped them, and the fashion that results from that. Abandoned Playground encapsulates their attitude towards the city areas far from the hustle and bustle, the deserted areas that most look past but at a second glance can be used for means of expression for those in the know. A True Urban Playground.
