VANS SHOP RIOT FINALS 2017 // THIS WEEKEND
After almost a year of rioting, the Vans Shop Riot finals take place this weekend at Pier 15 Skatepark, Breda, Holland.
With a strong list of finalists the fourteen shop teams from across Europe will battle it out to determine who will be crowned champions for 2017. Bana (Portugal) who won last years riot in dramatic fashion will be early favourites, however Titus (Germany) are close behind after their formidable consistancy previously highlighted throughout the 9 years of Vans Shop Riot. That said, with many newcomers having made it to the finals and Burnside leading the charge from Holland, expect to see a close run finals with some of the best skateboarding witnessed in 2017.
The Vans Shop Riot series was created back in 2009 with the intention of promoting the grass roots of European skateboarding, fostering team spirit and championing your local skate shop. The success of the series illustrates just how impressive our continents skate shops, skateboarders and scene really is, whilst also showing Vans’ commitment to our community. This will be highlighted even greater in the weekend’s finals.
Alongside the event Vans will be exhibiting artwork by Richt who has supported the 2017 riot from start to finish with his unique designs. Richt says “Growing up skateboarding and drawing makes working for Vans a career highlight, although it definitely doesn’t feel like work!”. Richt moved to Bristol in 2002 to paint Graffiti and get really good at skateboarding. He did one of those things. He has exhibited his work across the UK and Europe, with solo shows in Barcelona, Amsterdam, London and his native Bristol. He has also worked as a commercial illustrator/designer for over ten years. His work has featured in magazines and publications across the globe from Graffiti and street art including the highly influential ‘Street Sketchbook’ by Tristan Manco (Thames And Hudson, 2007).
