After six months of battling to qualify, the Vans Shop Riot finals take place this weekend at Parque Das Gerações skatepark, Lisbon, Portugal. The lineup up for this year’s Vans Shop Riot is complete and we will have fourteen shops from across Europe battle it out to determine who will be crowned champion for 2016. Titus (Germany) who won the riot last year will be early favourites with 2 x winners Black Sheep (UK) close behind. However, with many newcomers having made it to the finals and local heroes Bana rioting expect to see a close run final with some of the best skateboarding seen across Europe this year. The Vans Shop Riot series was created back in 2009 with the intention of promoting the grass roots of European skateboarding, fostering team spirit and championing your local skate shop. The success of the series illustrates just how impressive our continents skate shops, skateboarders and scene really is, whilst also showing Vans’ commitment to our community. This will be highlighted even greater in the weekend’s finals. Alongside the event Vans will be running art activations throughout Saturday & Sunday for people visiting including live footwear customisations, a Jon Horner exhibition and giveaway competitions including signed prints. For those who don’t know Jon Horner has worked across several projects within skateboarding from a collaboration with John Rattray for Thrasher Magazine to a multifaceted project for the union of Carhartt and Carve Wicked. Furthermore, he has immersed himself in a bunch of fundraising efforts for the charity Skatepal; and designed board graphics for Cliche, Death Skateboards, Lovenskate, The Friendship, Fancy Lad and more.
