This week’s session features music by NOLA natives, Tank And The Bangas. The group performed 2 songs, ‘Ants’ and ‘Happytown’ accompanied by art created by Devon Walz.

Tank And The Bangas are a sonic celebration of rhythm and poetic expressions. With eight members, the group melts soul, funk, rock, R&B, and spoken word into a fresh and authentic sound. Tank And The Bangas vividly represent their New Orleans roots, as well as the city’s ongoing struggles and resilience. The group’s founder Tarriona “Tank” Ball describes their offerings as the “crazy rollercoaster of sound, rhythm, love, light, expression, and things that make you feel whole.”

Since forming in 2011, Tank And The Bangas have earned honors from their hometown, NPR, and a Best New Artist nomination for the 2020 Grammy Awards. Their fellow musicians have been mesmerized by their unparalleled presence. Trey Anastasio of the legendary rock band Phish described Tarriona “Tank” as “a force of nature, just full of joy — and her band is killing in the background.” Their 2019 release, ‘Green Balloon’, is available now for streaming.

Art from this episode comes from Devon Walz. Devon is an abstract, mixed media artist and muralist from Southern California who’s self-study of visual art began while earning her BA at UC Berkeley. She’s most known for her use of bright colors and etheric dreamscapes. Drawing from expressionism, surrealism, psychedelia and the natural world she aims to construct otherworldly scenes where emotion and form intersect. Her work has been licensed by companies big and small, and is held by collectors around the globe. She currently works out of her studio in Santa Ana, CA.
