NIGHT HARVEST: PAT CASEY ON TOP
Spectacular Dirt Jumps floodlit under the stars.
Blood orange sunset stains the night sky over Cape Town, as the floodlights start to flash on and light up the pristine dirt jumps. The riders push their bikes up to the top of the roll-in tower and the atmosphere starts to buzz as the commentator announces the heavy line-up of riders from all over the world; Casey, Varga, Moreira, Kalkoff… The Golden Hour practice session is on.
Nearly a decade of this legendary event, and the two thousand-strong crowd are lining barriers to catch a glimpse of their heroes hitting arguably some of the most perfect dirt jumps in the world. These heavy hitters fly in from all over the world for the event every year, because Night Harvest has cemented itself as one of the most impressive displays of BMX and MTB in the world with one of the best atmospheres and most unique jump lines.
As the sky turns to inky black, the competition kicks into high gear, as the open jam format pushes the guys to dial in their full run through the course. The vibe is electric, as kids clamour to the final jump to catch a high 5 from the riders as they land their tricks.
Standout mention for the night was Leandro Moreira, the Brazilian powerhouse, who was flying at least 3 feet higher than all the other riders, showing the younger team what was possible on these perfect jumps.
Fan favourite and legend Pat Casey, never one to disappoint the crowd, had an unbelievable Night Harvest and took the overall BMX win: “Man, this is always one of my favourite events of the year. The Night Harvest Crew always shape the most perfect jumps and the crowd here is always so much fun. Stoked to put down my run tonight and take the win! Always looking forward to coming back here. Let’s party!”
