Lora Verner: Not Your Usual Portraits exhibition 11-27 September 2014
Salad Days

Subway Gallery proudly presents Not Your Usual Portraits, Lora Verner’s debut paintings exhibition. On show 33 acrylic on board/canvas works.

Born in New York in 1929, Lora Verner grew up in Philadelphia and moved to London in 1964, where she still lives. She has always been interested in the visual arts, painting abstract expressionism in the fifties and photography from the late sixties until now. Lora had an exhibition at the Photographers Gallery in 1984 which was favourably reviewed in the Arts page of the Guardian and recently sold three vintage prints to the V&A for their permanent collection. Lora began painting again in 2011, beginning a series of faces, having previously shown a particular interest in faces in her photographs. This series of faces form the basis of her current exhibition.
