John John crowned ProFrance 2014 champion
John John Florence has taken the win at the QuikPro France with a jaw-dropping display of technical airs, powerful carves and deep tubes.
This is the Hawaiin’s best performance this year, after a stunning semi-final with Kelly in Tahiti and getting runner up in Trestles, the man from Hawaii is heading into Peniche with a big win on his shoulders. The latest leg of the ASP World Tour enjoyed mixed conditions that utilised the whole of the waiting period this year. Early rounds enjoyed clean head high conditions on the French sandbars that allowed for progressive surfing to take centre stage. As well as John John, others who stood out with Monster airs were Miguel Pupo and Filipe Toledo, who stomped the biggest airs of the comp. The final rounds coincided with the first big winter swell of the European season. While many of the worlds best struggled with the large, unruly conditions, it was John John who showed his true class and mastery of the conditions. His many tube rides included the first 10 point ride of the comp for an impossible looking forehand tuberide on a double overhead bomb.
John John said about his time in France “it’s just great to be here, riding some of the best breaks in Hossegor and I’m looking forward to getting barrelled in Portugal next week!”. Tyler Wright also dominated the women’s RoxyPro in the Hossegor break, making it a total Monster domination in France this year. The tour moves next to the Supertubes break of Portugal before the climax in John John’s backyard of Pipeljne Hawaii at the end of the year.
