Element x Bad Brains
Sailing on from Washington DC, Bad Brains revolutionized punk rock as they moved to NYC in the early 80s.
Mixing the concept they coined of PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) while delivering a never-before blend of punk rock that was louder, faster and wilder than the rest, they gave birth to hardcore punk, with their original singer, HR, just labeled as “throat” on their albums.
Also armed with deep Rastafarian beliefs and a few ventures in dreamy dub pastures, Bad Brains came, saw, and tore down the walls – the same way their trademarked lightning bold would destroy Babylon in a single blow.
This season’s collection is anchored by the photographic work of BJ Papas, who shot the band and many others at famous clubs such as CBGB’s and The Ritz. A track and field inspired jacket and pant pay homage to the style the band was often seen supporting. The collection tops off with artwork from bass player Darryl Jenifer of lower Manhattan’s Bowery neighborhood – specifically the iconic awning of CBGB’s as seen in tees and hoodies.
