‘Disturbing The Peace – Punk at Its Core 1969-2002′ / Presented by Punk Rock Bowling – Lethal Amounts – Juxtapoz

1969-1977 LEEE BLACK CHILDERS, was Andy Warhol‘s assistant and personal photographer in the Factory, giving him access to the newly rising stars of the 70’s. This led to his employment with David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust fame. Later working with The Stooges and managing Johnny Thunders And The Heartbreakers during the world’s first Punk Rock tour, ‘Anarchy In The UK’. Touring with the then unknown Sex Pistols and The Clash. His photos document the infusion of art and rock through the rise and fall of 70’s Glam rock then reinvented by a new generation to create was is now known as the first wave of Punk.

1978-1984 EDWARD COLVER, who is considered the most prolific Punk photographer of all time, shooting hundreds of thousands of photos of the underground music tribes in southern California. He documented the entire second wave of punk in Los Angeles that spawned the movement that was known as Hardcore.

1980-1990 MAD MARC RUDE, was a self taught artist who lent his skills to countless punk flyers and record sleeves across America. Some of his most iconic illustrations are seen on the sleeve of the Misfits ‘Earth A.D.’ LP and Battalion Of Saints ‘Fighting Boys’ EP.

1990-2002 JESSE FISCHER photographing professionally in the early 1990’s he captured iconic images of bands like Rancid, NOFX, Pennywise and Offspring as they were breaking into mainstream success with Epitaph Records.

Through these images we can see the big bang theory of punk rock with Velvet Underground’s involvement with Andy Warhol, to the aggressive primitive sounds of the Stooges cross-pollinating with England’s Glitter Rock flamboyance and excess. The late 70’s introduction of Punk Rock rising from the implosion of 70’s Glam, to then later taking shape into the American Hardcore movement of the 1980’s and opening doors for the new generation of bands of the 1990’s. Each artist featured in the show had a special role in documenting each era from the insider’s perspective as a member of the movement, not as a journalist.
